Smyrna’s Christmas Parade Hits Lowry Street Dec. 6, and Entry Is Free

Smyrna's Christmas parade is set for Sunday, Dec. 6, at 2 p.m., and the town is already taking applications from anyone who wants to be part of it. There is no entry fee, which makes it one of the cheapest ways to put a group, a business or a decorated truck in front of the whole town this holiday season.

The route belongs to Lowry Street, the same street that holds Town Hall at 315 South Lowry. For the next few weeks, though, the action is on paper and online rather than on pavement. Town officials have posted a parade application, along with a set of rules and guidelines that applicants are asked to read before they sign up.

The dates that matter

The firm one is Friday, Nov. 20. That is the registration deadline, and the town has said plainly that nothing will be accepted after it, including on the morning of the parade. Anyone planning to take part should treat Nov. 20 as the real finish line and not wait for a spare weekend.

Once an application is in, participants pick up a parade packet on one of three days: Monday, Nov. 23, Tuesday, Nov. 24, or Monday, Nov. 30. Organizers are also asking people to bring a non-perishable food donation when they come for the packet. It is a small ask that turns a routine pickup into a community drive.

Tuesday, Nov. 24 is a day to circle for another reason. That evening the town lights its Christmas tree at the train depot, from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Depot District, so a participant who picks up a packet that day can make an evening of it. Our earlier story has the details on the tree lighting.

Another way to give before the parade

Food is turning into the theme of the month. Smyrna firefighters are running their own drive from Nov. 9 through Nov. 15, and anyone who would rather give early, or give twice, can find the specifics in our fire department food drive story. Donations collected at the parade packet pickup follow the same non-perishable rule, so a single trip to the grocery store can cover both.

How to get your group in

Applications go through the town's website, and questions can be sent to the parade team by email at christmas.parade@townofsmyrna.org or by phone at 615-267-5005. The town's guidance is simple: read the rules first, finish every required field, and submit before the Nov. 20 cutoff.

For spectators there is nothing to sign. Show up on Lowry Street on the first Sunday of December, bring a coat, and claim a curb. The Smyrna Christmas Parade is one of the stops on the town's annual events calendar, which runs from the spring egg hunt through the summer festivals and wraps up with a parade down Lowry Street at 2 p.m. on Dec. 6.
